THE SHAPE OF VISUAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

PINK FLOYD CONCERT SCREEN

ASPECT RATIO

16:9 ratio becomes the industry standard for screens on devices
for visual reproduction of a video imagery.
It was a compromise between 4:3 ratio that Thomas Edison had used in 1892 for sprocket perforation of film stock, and the Hollywood preference for 2.39 :1 ratio for epic landscape images.

Early TV's used a 4:3 or 1.33 : 1 screen geometry
The human eye most scanned field of vision is approximately the same ratio

CINEMA

2.2O:1

THE NEW HD DEVICE STANDARD IS 16:9 ASPECT RATIO
SOME PHONES HAVE 18:9 AS A FULL SCREEN VIEWING
